SunChild | My daughter painted a hard boiled egg for Easter a few days ago. I picked it up and was pressing it into some modeling clay as a place holder, and I accidentally cracked it with my rough handling lol anyway I broke into the yolk and it was kind of black. It did not smell bad at all, it was a very pleasant smell even though it was not refrigerated at all. I secretly wanted to eat it but I tossed it in the bin to be on the safe side. That's weird I know. But I'm curious now, isn't that how Philippinos eat eggs, black and old like that? Can eggs be fully hard boiled and not refrigerated and let it age as a delicacy ? I swear it smelled so nice! My weird post of the year. I promise I won't do that again.

Padre35 | I believe it is the SE Asian cultures that eat "100 yr old eggs" but they are basically inorganic matter at that point.I've boiled eggs and left them on the counter for 2-3 days and they were fine, but the shells weren't cracked. |
Yin | It was probably just colored by the paint. I've eaten plenty of blue, green or blackish colored yolks around Easter. |
Randall | It was fine. The nose knows. |
Yin | Raw eggs can last up to a month without being refrigerated and a lot less when they are cooked. |
Randall | I ate some eggs over a year past the expiration date. They were congealed and didn't scramble well, but still good. |
anno_lucis | the philippinos eat eggs with the chick fetus partly developed lol. it's called balut. yum! |
StarlightSmileSupreme | I would never eat any egg. Not enough nutritional value for me. |
GemNymph | Huh? Eggs are very nutritious. They are not only a complete protein, but are also a good natural sources of B12, Riboflavin and Selenium, and additionally are a moderately good natural source of vitamin A, folate and iron. I eat 1-2 whole eggs plus egg whites pretty much everyday as part of my low-carb diet for my PCOS and allergies. Since I can't eat a lot of carbs, the fat in the eggs is a needed source of calories. They also have a good but not high amount of saturated fat--without enough saturated fat in my diet, my immune system crashes and my brain gets foggy. |
Randall | They are also high in sulphur, which we need, but it's difficult to find in ample amounts elsewhere. |
